Hi, I’m a Canadian writer, gardener, and old-house obsessive living in Ecuador. And this is not a blog about having a perfect house or a perfect garden.

Hilary in Season is where I write about gardening, home design, flowers, slow seasonal living, old houses, and the small domestic rituals that make ordinary life feel more beautiful.

This came from a simple idea: that the best things in life have a season. I wanted to start this site almost a decade ago. That’s a pretty long time to sit on an idea. But I learned the long, hard way – you can’t force something into becoming when it’s just not time. Living in season means bring right where you actually are — not where you think you should be — and doing the right work at the right time.

I’ve lived in four countries, and I think that has shaped the way I see things. I notice what people plant beside doorways. I notice kitchens, markets, old buildings, linen on a line, animals sleeping in the sun, and the quiet ways people make a place feel lived in.

I’m especially drawn to things that feel aged, useful, and real: cottage gardens, antique, lived-in interiors, weathered materials, good books, and meals made with what’s already in the kitchen.

I write for women who want the flowers on the table, a reading corner by the window, an old house with character, and a slower kind of life that feels less like an aesthetic and more like a way of just finally paying attention.
