I’m Canadian, but much of Hilary in Season is shaped by my life between Canada and Ecuador, especially our old home and garden outside Quito. That setting influences so much of what I write about: old stone, mountain light, flowers, slow mornings, renovation, and learning to create beauty where you are.
No — and that’s actually part of the point! I’m not writing from the perspective of a professional horticulturalist or interior designer. I write as someone learning, observing, experimenting, and slowly building a more beautiful home and garden over time.
I’m open to thoughtful collaborations with brands that genuinely fit the Hilary in Season world — gardening, home, interiors, books, seasonal living, photography, slow travel, and well-made objects for the home or garden. I’m most interested in partnerships that feel useful, beautiful, and honest for my readers.
Sometimes I will use the Tezza app for photos and even video, but most of the time I don’t do much else other than slightly brighten up the image.
I try not to make anything look overly polished or unrealistic. I want the garden, the house, and the seasons to feel as close as possible to how they actually felt in the moment.
In a serious way for nearly a decade – but my interest was peaked when I was quite small via our close neighbor named Cricket, like a second mom to me. I also later discovered my grandparents owned a plant nursery for a time in the UK, so it’s a bit of a genetic interest I suppose as well!
